Students from Maranatha Christian School in
Victoria have been participating in Mission Awareness tours to Thailand for the
last four years, and another contingent is preparing for the next
tour this December. Preparations include monthly team meetings where we
get to know our team members, learn about the Thai
culture and Thai food, and develop our mastery of the Thai language.
Students are fundraising throughout the year to raise the funds needed for their
airfares. We would certainly appreciate your prayers as we work towards
sharing Gods love with the kids and people of Thailand later this year
What are we doing:
The team spends the majority of their time in Chiang Mai,
working with two different organisations:
1. The Agape Orphanage for children with HIV/AIDS. We spend time with the kids
on their daily walks and help out wherever possible with their new building
project.
2. McKean Rehabilitation Centre, a leprosy hospital which is now integrating
leprosy sufferers with general patients. We cleared and rediscovered an
overgrown basketball court, repainted the lines and whitewashed the walls,
making the facility usable and giving the hospital an attractive venue to make
available to the wider community.
3. We will also be spending time with other mission groups such
as the "New Life Center" & "Christians Concerned for
Burma", as well as teaching English to young people who have been saved
from slave labour. Cultural tours and a trek complete what will be a busy 18
days

Northern Territory Mission Trip 2006
PLENTY VALLEY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
Now
completed
Fourteen PVCC Year 10 students are spending their school
holidays in the Northern Territory on a mission trip. The heart and vision of
this trip is the opportunity for the students, some of whom already take on
leadership roles, to serve others and appreciate indigenous values. This
experience will help them to be part of a generation that will actively seek and
walk in reconciliation. A leader at Darwin commented that our students would
contribute practically to the communities of Belyuen and Elcho Island and
provide significant positive role modeling of choices that offer a life without
self-harm or self-destruction.
The students will be working under YWAM Youth Adventure leadership and will
contribute practically to the communities. They will be painting, participating
in youth sports, spending time with orphans, meeting with locals and community
workers.
The participating students are James Flack, Kirsten Goldsmith, Rosie Symons,
Joshua Chapman, Ryan Murray, Aimee Sharp, Eloise Grant, Melissa Auty, Bethany
Lepp, Fiona Blythe, Joshua Wuelfert, Matthew Mann, Laura Graham, Lari Smith. The
youth leaders are Michael Simpson, David Thompson, Erin McLindon and Hannah
McMaster. Two parents- Rose Mann and John Graham- have also elected to travel in
support of the group. The teachers mentoring the group are Marg Auty and Liz
Jones
